The core gameplay revolves around a collection of 255 cards representing animals, specialists, unique enclosures, and conservation projects, each endowed with specific abilities that influence the development of the zoo. Players utilize these cards to enhance the appeal and scientific reputation of their zoo while accumulating conservation points. The strategic use of action cards, which can be upgraded throughout the game, is essential for implementing various actions within the game board.

Players hold a set of five action cards governing their turn options. The effectiveness of an action depends on the card’s current slot, adding a layer of tactical decision-making. The primary actions are:
